Dear Fellow SciArters,

Here is an announcement, especially for those of you in the
Washington, D.C. area. First a bit of background:

Some of you may know me as having been freelance as a science
illustrator for over 20 years. (Wow! That long? How old ARE you?).
And now I have shifted my focus away from the market of the
freelancer and aim instead in the direction of the digital world of
illustration at Goddard Space Flight Center with Britt Griswold...in
fact, in the same office. No more painting for a while. Thankfully. I
needed something different. And this is.

But this really wasn't the announcement.

Just as I am leaving the world of painting in the traditional
sense...and I mean just...I am now in two art exhibits. The first
one, opening reception Sunday, July 21st, 3-5pm, is a group show
called "Post This!", juried by Michael O'Sullivan, art critic to the
Washington Post. The Studio Gallery, at 2108 R Street, NW, is just a
couple of blocks west of Connecticut Ave and close to the metro.

O'Sullivan has chosen two pieces of mine which had first appeared in
Natural History Magazine when I was illustrating the monthly
"Biomechanics" column. One was chosen for the announcement card. Due
to the curious nature of these two pieces, I can't wait to hear what
he was thinking.

Anyway, I'd love to see some of you there, for those of you who can make it!

(I'll announce the second show, which opens at the National Academy
of Sciences in October, a little later on, when it's more current.)

Sally
