a question for all you bone collectors out there -- i
found a wonderfully dried-up bird skeleton at the
beach yesterday with some of the feathers still in
place on the wing. i know nothing about avian anatomy,
so this is a source of real fascination. does anyone
know:
1. a good reference for bird anatomy and
2. how to carefully clean up some of these feathers so
they look a bit less bedraggled, but i want them to
stay attached to the bone as much as possible.
it doesn't look like a gull since it's a bit smaller
and what was left of the feet don't look webbed, so i
suspect it was a killdeer or stilt or something like
that. great autumn day on the northern california
coast!
