Listserv Request Form

This form and the listserv.unl.edu service are intended for the use of University of Nebraska-Lincoln Faculty, Staff and Students.

Basic List Setup

• at least one is required

• You must enter your exact Internet e-mail address that you will use to manage your list. If you try to identify yourself to listserv with any address other than the ones you enter here, the Listserv software will not recognize you as an owner.

• Addresses listed as owners are not automatically included as subscribers to the list. If you want to interact with the list as a subscriber also, you will have to add your address as a subscriber after the list is created.

Sending to this list:

Private - Only subscribed members can send directly to this list.
Public - Anyone on the Internet can send directly to this list for distribution to all members.
Owner - Only the owner(s) of the list may send directly to it.
Moderated - All submissions sent to the list are forwarded to the Editor, who can choose whether to distribute the submission or ignore it. The default Editor is the first listed Owner.

Subscription Requests:

Open - Anyone can subscribe to the list without requiring approval (owners will be notified).
By Owner - Subscription requests are forwarded to owners. Owner may approve or ignore the requests.
Closed - Subscription requests are denied. Owner must add all members.

Advanced Options

Unless you are familiar with the listserv software's options, you probably want to accept the default values for these.

Confidential:

If a list is not confidential, its name, description, and list of members will be shared with the entire Internet (including Google).
Confidential - Existence of list IS NOT shared with the public.
Not Confidental - Existence of list IS shared with the public.

Acknowledgement of sent messages:

Nothing - No acknowledgement is sent to the submitter of message.
Brief - A brief acknowledgement reply is sent to submitter.
Copy - A reply consisting of a copy of the sent message is sent to the submitter.

Default for Replies:

List - Replies to postings go to list, therefore to all members of the list. Appropriate for discussion lists.
Sender - Replies go back to original submitter only. Appropriate for announcement-type lists.

Digest distribution:

No - Digest option is not available to users. Users will receive messages as they are posted.
Yes - Send entire day's postings as a single message overnight, rather than individual messages (default for all new users).
Optional - Users may choose to receive messages as they are posted, or as a digest overnight (default is to receive messages as they are posted).

Archive Messages:

No - Do NOT archive messages.
Yes - Archive messages for viewing by ALL Internet Users via web (including Google).
Private - Archive messages for viewing Only by the suscribed members of this list via web.

NOTE: If you choose to archive messages, but this list is Confidential (see above), the name of this list will NOT appear in the menu of lists, so an extra step will be required to find the archives (a search box exists on the menu of lists for this purpose).
