The light. It was the quality of light that captured me.
Intoxicatingly clear. And the stones...everywhere. The stone streets,
sidewalks, houses-all different compositions, sizes, shapes, configurations.
The narrow winding roads; the sidewalks wide enough for two people one
moment, then barely wide enough for one foot the next. Ducking into doorways
to let cars whiz passed. And the doorways and iron work. I could have spent
a month each photographing or drawing the variety of doorways, of iron work
over the windows, of stone patterns, and of the tiles. Who knew one could
completely tile so many buildings in so many ways! Tiles in the plaster,
tiles in the floors, street signs in tile. All different, all exquisite.
For me, it was the light, the architecture, the air, and the warmth
of the Guild.
