I agree about spreading too thin. I use MySpace for my music project and
the signal to noise ratio is very, very high.
if people with dial-up think a small attached JPG bogs down their
connection, just try pulling up a myspace page with
multiple animated ad banners. I think it makes sense to identify the
reason for expanding and maximize that choice(s). it
mostly sounds like folks (who have broadband) would like an option for
seeing replies with images embedded. this CAN be
done within MySpace. but it would mean that we would need to migrate our
discussions from Sciart to make it convienent.
otherwise it is just another URL to past in our sciart messages. perhaps
people who do not have a website and want to
post an image for the group might want to take advantage of services
like Photobucket, where one can upload an image
and are given a URL to paste into their message.
I can see one question that's worth asking again. who on the list only
has web access via dial-up and still wishes that the group
not embed images within their sciart messages? of those who answer yes,
what e-mail program/browser do you use?
it is my suspicion that it will be easy enuf to tutor a handful of dial
ups how to filter images out of messages. this done, we could
reinstitute the pasting of images within messages here on sciart.
a reference in wiki would be excellent. much of what could be said about
our field in general and GNSI specifically has already been
written to good effect. what are the rights issues with quoting Elaine's
intro from the Handbook or the GNSI site's description of itself?
PS not to worry bruce, unless you sign on under the description of a "16
y/o lonely lad seeking soulmate" you'll be fine with the local vice.
