Britt:
I'm going to be doing the scanning - but only so I can teach him how to do it and he can strike
out on his own in the future. That said, a test print for $10 is an excellent suggestion!
My intuition is that different companies will have various requirements, will work in the color space
of their choice etc. I'm having the student make lots of inquiries so he can also learn the language of this part
of the art reproduction world.
Thanks!
Margie

Well, if your student is doing the scanning, your other option is to try an experiment with one of the online print services. I have used http://www.imagekind.com for printing my digital files prints for GNSI annual exhibits. There may be some limitations on how sizes are selected, and what colorspace you work to (not sure about that, it has been a year or more since my last order). you can get small test prints for about $10. They have archival options. and framing options.
THe process for prints seem very reasonable. The service might well be worth testing as part of your search for the best options.

Thanks for the referrals. We can do the digital scanning ourselves. I think the
student would prefer to take the original with him and go to
the printer. He's able to travel so both of these are all viable suggestions!
Thanks,
Margie
