Indeed. It is a huge topic here in Canada, not only because of compassion for the victims, but because we know and are frustrated by the knowledge, that it is possible to live in a free country and with great geographic and demographic similarities and yet have far fewer innocents shot simply by implementing sensible gun regulations.

In fact, I don't even think the problem is the second amendment per se, but how it has been interpreted, to mean something other than what the English words actually say. I feel so strongly by the loss of so much innocent life that I have written an essay about this, posted here: <http://www.volconvo.com/forums/specials-invitations/43073-open-letter-canadian-friend-about-guns.html> and if I can find the time (in between painting cormorants and hummingbirds) I hope to do a follow-up on the response to this horrific tragedy (and the ongoing daily toll in lives lost) addressing, as so many others have, the National Rifle Association's inane response, to the tragedy.

One of the victims, a little girl, was a Canadian whose family had recently moved to Connecticut, and we are seeing more and more handguns being smuggled into Canada, with predictably dire results. It's so sad, and so needless

And to add to this: Newtown was, and is, world news. I can confirm people all over the world are still talking about this and the sentiment is that all are relieved that the States seems to finally tilt over towards questioning the validity of the second amendment.

That one hits hard Dorie. I know you live close to there. I would love to make something happen to keep that from happening again. I certainly hope it wakes up some people to allowing some action on gun control issues. But I just don't thinking turning away from a discussion of the tools of our trade on THIS forum will make that happen.
