Hi Linda,
In part to avoid that problem, and in part to automate a process we do
many times a day, all the Illustration Editors here at Annual Reviews have
recorded an action for saving PDFs that uses our preferred PDF quality
presets and CLOSES the file after saving it as a PDF. You can assign a
function key to it. I only ever save PDFs from AI that way!
(Access the Action palette under the Window menu)
You have to reopen your AI file to continue working, but at least you
don't accidentally work in the PDF.
