Although it doesn't always happen,  I think it is the intent of the 
rules/ suggestions?, is that the sponsor help the entrant refine his/her 
project in order to increase the entrants level of understanding of 
their project as well as their mental and emotional ability to deal with 
the judging process.  The sponsor gets to work on their teaching and 
guiding skills.  If we all grow, we all win!  With such questions, ask 
the organizer of the competition.
