That sounds like the most logical reason, Shandra.
How to prevent it in the future: Possibly switch to a different email provider - one that weathered this storm of spam in a more flexible manner.
OR
Use the web interface.
OR
Resubscribe and just pay attention if list traffic seems low. Bookmark the web interface and how to manage your subscriptions.
BTW - There are currently 420 subscribers - I know that some people who got booted resubscribed already, but that means nearly 25% of the list members were booted.
