The key here is that the shift of deadline for preparing a flyer has changed - to much closer to the event than it used to be. And many groups have allowed their decision-making process and their publicity plans to shift deadline as well. This leads to a lot of not knowing what neat things are going on at the event, in time for people to decide to ask for the weekend off.
Even just knowing when site opens is huge - do I day trip? If in the KC area, and site doesn't open until 9, probably. If Site opens at 8, and stuff starts happening at 9am, I'm more likely to drive down the night before. Of an onsite ball into the night, with the site access lasting till 8am (Like Lonely Tower's event on Nov 1st!) is hugely different than a place where we have to be off-site by 8pm, in terms of planning.
I miss the print newsletters. But I miss groups making decisions and communicating them in advance even more.
