I believe that in the discussion of Cather's spelling, someone stated that she had misspelled the name of her banker in Red Cloud, writing Florance instead of Florence. I recently came across a list of Nebraska bankers, and the correct spelling is in fact "Florance." Apologies if I have remembered the discussion incorrectly.
