In the throes of end of semester grading, hiring, and so forth, I am thoroughly enjoying reading and experiencing the excitement surrounding publication of the Cather letters. I received my copy, preordered from Amazon, on the 16th. But for me, too, it's one letter at a time between freshman essays.

So the hoopla is welcome, and I'm so impressed by the quality of the volume, the selection of letters, the beauty of the book itself, and the fact that Cather's publisher Knopf published it. Even though she might have been a little disturbed by the fact of the publication, I feel certain that she would be pleased by the quality and beauty of the work.

Andy and Janis, many thanks to you for this incredible addition to the Cather oeuvre. And Janis, even your "scolding" is beautifully written. Congratulations to all involved.

Back to grading,
Sarah Watson
