Dear ECNers,

During COVID, we have been transcribing many more records both through Notes from Nature and on SCAN. The current rate of transcription is greater than I can check everyday, nor does it seem like a wise use of time. However all transcribers are new to transcription, having started in the last two months. We also have thousands of legacy records that have been transcribed, but the data may not be standardized and of variable quality. Again more records than I can check by hand.

My questions are

1) Do you check all transcriptions? If not how to do you select which specimens to review?

2) What techniques and/or computer software do you utilize to check and standardize legacy data? Or do you check every record? (I am aware of batch changes in SCAN).

Thanks in advance,

 Laurel Kaminsky
