I agree with this thinking. I feel you can ask for a good rate ($30.00
-$50.00 an hour in smaller cities, closer to $80.00 an hour in large
communities) if you are providing experience and ability to do brisk
production. In the end, the client can save money by paying the higher rate
to the more experienced illustrator, rather than a low rate to a less
experienced illustrator who may take longer to complete the work, and make
costly mistakes in how the work is set up for reproduction. There are so
many factors to consider; the amount of work and the consistency of the work
flow, the amount of research and preliminary work provided by the client, and
the ownership of rights in the end.
