Subject: Hello.
Hi.
I'm an artist with 12 years experience in drawing and printmaking. I'm
beginning to put together a portfolio of natural science illustration work,
and to take classes in various aspects of the field. I hope to actually
enter the field in the next year or two.
I've been lurking on the list for a while, and have learned a lot from the
discussions - but I'm starting to feel guilty about not contributing
anything - even a question... So I thought I had better show my face, as it
were, and perhaps ask one of the million questions I have.
My impression is that many of the illustrators on the list came to
illustration from a science background. (Is this true?) I'm wondering if
anyone who came to it from an art background might give me some ideas about
problems they have faced and/or classes they have taken to broaden their
science education as it applies to illustration.
Any ideas, impressions, nostalgic remembrances, or dire warnings would be
appreciated.
Thanks for any input, and for all your interesting discussions on the list,
Erica Beade

Erica--
I have indeed come into natural science illustration from and art background,
ie. a mediocre fine art school, graduating about 100 years ago. I am
currently attempting to support myself and 2 kids entirely on a free-lancer's
salary. If you want to discuss any specific items, feel free to email me at
[log in to unmask] Or if it seems of interest to the list subscribers, post it
here. I don't always keep up to date on this list.
