Dear Gail and Clara,

The software I mentioned is called "Epson Powerrip Postscrip" and sells
from my ClubMac catalog for $199.  The $250 price I quoted is for the
Stylus Pro XL (12x18"printer) software.  I would assume that the $89
third party version would be a better choice if Epson recommends it.

I've printed Illustrator 6.0 files in their native formats from my Mac.
Some included EPS, Photoshop 3.0, TIFF, and PICT placements- and all of
these printed well. All of my Quark documents contained only PICT files, I
would try an EPS sample as a test if my inks weren't so low.

The only times I've encountered pixelation was when printing a desktop
window and a friends Quark document that did not have the printer fonts
collected and installed.  A friend of mine was convinced by the
MacWarehouse salesperson that she needed the $199 software, and since then
I've begun to worry.  I wonder, for example, if a program like Painter 5.0
which creates a combination of raster and vector based art has an internal
driver.
