Anyone interested in why TV is so addictive and infuential might enjoy the
book "Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television" by Jerry Mander (no
kidding), I think put out by Sierra Club Books. He quit his job as president
of an ad agency in the 70's to work on public interest advertising. He talks
about scientific research into how TV affects our brains and also discusses
social and psychological implications of the messages we and our children
see.
