"I have a chance to go to Malaysia on February 15th and I am scrambling
around bookstores to find books on the tropical plants and animals
there. I know little about any of the area although I've drawn some of
those wierd animals. I'm looking for good botanical books and field
guides for Asian rainforest, but they seem very hard to find for that
part of the world.

Malaysia is Missouri Botanical Gardens territory. I am sure I have seen
books there on what you need though I can't remember any titles or if they
were just there on exhibit during a meeting. Anyway they sponser much of
the botanical research done there and could quickly guide you. Even if
they don't have books they may have slides to lend for research purposes.
They also have part of their herbarium photographed and available on line
though I don't know how far along that is and whether you need special
permission for what you want. They have a huge homepage with question and
answer sections.
