PDF is an Adobe open standard format.  It works on MAC, PC, UNIX.  It
allows the viewing of files with a free viewer software called Acrobat
Reader, current version is 3.01.  File sized are compressed to make then
easily transferable.

You use a set of programs called Acrobat to make and edit PDF files from
Postscript files.  Cost about $125 mail order.

You may be able to get arount this need by saving your image as an LZW TIF
or JPG and open it in Illustrator 7.0 or higher (6.0 may support some
formats as well).  Then Save the document as a PDF (illustrator supports
the format somewhat).  Then check it out with a PDF reader (adobe.com)
before sending it.  Or there is a plug-in for Web Browsers that allows you
to view the document in your web browser.

The tricky part here is will the compression settings in LZW TIF or JPG
hold when you open it in Illustrator.  Otherwize your PDF will be large in
size, which defeats the whole purpose of the format.
