backup my files to a Zip from within Norton (using Fastback).(Thanks
Britt!) Hopefully, that'll work. Since I'm wiping the slate clean, I'll
look for a copy of OS 8.1 and do whatever needs to be done to make it
work. (Thanks Darcy, Graham, and Liz) What a royal pain in the backside,
though.

Thanks all for the web editing software recommendations - looks like I
have a few other to-dos before diving in on that stuff. (That's what
started this whole SNAFU - trying to upgrade the system so my HD could
support a Navigator upgrade!)

Think I'll take a break for now - I've spit out enough nails for one
day.
