Hi April--

What surface were you working on for your original mating bugs?  If it was
drafting film,  or rag Bristol board (at least 3 ply) of some kind, erasing
and re-inking should be no problem.  It would be a neat Photoshop challenge.

Perhaps you could make your initial position changes in Photoshop, then
output it on a transparent or vellum surface --the special vellum papers for
laser/inkjet are very good--and perhaps continue touching up the remaining
stipples with your pen.  Or probably any good paper would do.  Just run a
test first!

Just a thought--I love hybrid traditional/digital solutions!
