I am teaching a weeklong workshop in glorious northern New Mexico and hope you can join me:

NATURALIST ILLUSTRATION -AN ARTIST'S FIELD GUIDE, Mon Aug 8-Sun Aug 14. Sharpen and improve drawing skills through observation of plants and natural science subjects at the 21,000 acre Ghost Ranch Retreat Center, home site of artist Georgia O’Keefe. Abiquiu is located in the fertile Chama River Valley….intensely colored landscapes, lunar white rock canyons, petroglyphs, ancient adobe buildings, and miles and miles of protected national forest. The cliffs and hills of Ghost Ranch are not just colorful; they conceal the fossilized skeletons of dinosaurs. Many specimens have been found in the 250-million-year-old Triassic Period redbeds at the base of the sandstone cliffs. Particularly notable are remains of the coelophysis, one of the oldest known dinosaurs. Meditate at the labyrinth, contemplate the vast Milky Way, and prepare for easy hikes and working outdoors accompanied by an John Hayden, expert guide who knows the botany, geology, and archaeology of northern New Mexico as few others do, and naturalist illustrator, Cynthia Padilla.
