A themed issue will be proposed for publication with Nineteenth-Century
Music Review on the topic of Ossian in the long nineteenth century (roughly
1790s–1910s). Contributors will produce an essay of around 7500 words on
any area of nineteenth-century music whose theme relates to Ossian,
Ossianic poetry, or Ossianism. The issue would contain a preface that
covers an overview of the Ossian phenomenon, the state of the question on
Ossian and authenticity, reception history, and previous research on
Ossianic style in music (and therefore need not be addressed in
contributors’ essays).

Potential contributors should submit an abstract of roughly 250 words on
the proposed subject of their essay. Abstracts should be accompanied by a
brief bio, including current affiliation and contact details. The deadline
for these abstracts is November 15. Abstracts should be sent to Sarah Waltz
([log in to unmask]).

Please feel free to contact me informally ahead of the deadline to discuss
the suitability of the proposal and the parameters of the project (at
swaltz -at- pacific.edu). Potential contributors may wish to note the
journal’s instructions for contributors here:
