I believe what is being done here is similar to what is being done for the Barony of Forgotten Sea. We have a BFS Discussion Group and we have a BFS News Group. Any discussing goes on on the discussion group, but anything that the Baron and Baroness want to get out to announce and stuff like that comes on the News one. Also, the Curia notes go out on the News one.
I do, however, disagree with putting this list on that list. If people want the information that is on the other list, they should sign up for it. Personally, I do not like getting duplicates or triplicates of messages just because some people want to be on one list and not sign up for another. If you want the information, sign up, if you do not want the information, don't sign up. There might be people out there as well that are only interested in receiving that sort of information and they can do just that group instead of both.

When I said the Calon list and the FB group aren't official, I meant that anything posted here and there doesn't delineate SCA policy, or, more specifically, Calontir policy, and cannot be accepted as having the authority of the Crown or the Witan. Will this new group have that authority? I guess I assumed it would, and of course it might not.
Roise's description of the new Yahoo group sounds to me like it is meant to be a reliable source for news, like who won Crown Tourney or what happened in court recently. Remember, that's what started this whole kerfluffle: Crown Tourney news was posted to FB, somebody on the Calon List politely asked that we not be forgotten, and, well, here we are...
And I agree with you that the Calon List should automatically be
subscribed to the new email list. Similarly, items posted to the new list should _automatically_ forward to the FB group if possible.
