I recall reading a paper a few years back about the different names for
colours used in describing bird feathers. Various ornithologists were
given colour swatches and asked to point the 'olivaceous green', 'rusty
buff' or what have you. There was pretty little agreement between the
experts on which colour was which ostensibly technical term.
I wonder if something similar has been done for entomology?
