GNSI-DC's Wed. March 16, 2016 meeting will present:
CONSERVATION ADVOCACY MEDIA: Bridging the gap between science and art (...plus a preview of her
Katie Schuler will discuss the challenges and successes in communicating complex science and
advocating for wildlife through different forms of visual media. Katie is Head of Production and
Founder of Coral and Oak Studios: a unique production company dedicated to telling stories that
educate and inspire audiences to engage with the creatures, people and world around them. Part
photographer, videographer and artist, Katie works at the nexus between art, entrepreneurship,
community development and conservation. She will conclude her presentation by previewing her
upcoming film: "I'll have the number 32 with Special Sauce: The afterlife of a Pangolin" Duration:
Katie Schuler has traveled to over 22 countries across six continents documenting wildlife and their
habitats. As an artist and producer, she has led outreach efforts to vulnerable communities and
undereducated youth, both at home and abroad. Katie’s clients include National Geographic, The
Smithsonian Institute, Conservation International, Woods Hole Oceanographic and PBS. Katie is a
graduate of the Corcoran College of Art and Design, and a recipient of the prestigious Koenig Trust
Scholarship. In 2015, she received the Henry Luce Fellowship and spent the last year in the
Philippines collaborating with scientists and conservation NGO's on various art and storytelling
projects. She currently lives and works in Washington DC.
