That is a big agenda there.

If you have more specific questions it will be easier to get an answer from
this group.

Freelancing can be profitable and rewarding, or unprofitable and dull.  It
all depends on what you can do,  what you know,  who you know, and how well
you network with your collegues, and advertise your services.  Strict, hard
core illustration for scientists will not make you rich,  but if you can
transfer those skills into a longterm collaboration, or Publishing,
Multimedia, Exhibit work, the pay will be better.
