Are you familiar with an illustated novel by Barbara Hodgson called
_The Sensualist_? It's illustrated with antique medical illustrations
and I found it wierd but fascinating.

To quote from a review on the Barnes & Noble website : "...interest is
provided by an intricate puzzle involving 16th-century Flemish
anatomist Andreas Vesalius and by a plethora of gorgeously spooky
anatomical illustrations."
