Marlene,
I assume you are looking for a B&W printer. You could get a color one for
that money, put it would not replace a stat machine.
I recommend a Xante Accel-a-Writer, probably a G3 model, though that might
be overkill, maybe an upgraded 3N or 3DN.
They are a little difficult to find a seller however, as I think at some
point in the recent past, they may have decided to go after the
professional marked through resellers, pbut not the mass Mailorder
magazines. Call their 800 number and find out. Mary Parrish has one of
thier older models. Id did find one reseller on ther web, listed below the
WacWeek Review.

xanté speeds laser printer line
By Andrea Dudrow ([log in to unmask])
xanté Corp. last week unleashed three high-speed additions to
its Accel-a-Writer laser printer
line.
The $2,395 Accel-a-Writer 3, $2,995 Accel-a-Writer 3N and
$3,295 Accel-a-Writer 3G print 20
pages per minute at a resolution of 1,200 dpi. Each features
Adobe PostScript 3 page
description language.
The monochrome printers, which xanté said can be upgraded to
print at 2,400 dpi, are based
on a 133-MHz RISC processor. All have mirror print
capabilities, which let users print documents
with reversed images, and negative print capabilities, which
let users reverse areas of black and
white in a document.
The Accel-a-Writer 3, which has a serial interface, and
Accel-a-Writer 3N, which ships with an
Ethernet port, can print on media as large as 13 by 18.5
inches; the maximum printable area is
12.75 by 18.42 inches, the company said. Both printers ship
with 32 Mbytes of RAM and can
accommodate as much as 256 Mbytes.
The higher-end Accel-a-Writer 3G, which also ships with
Ethernet capabilities, can print on
media as large as 13 by 35.5 inches with a maximum printable
area of 12.75 by 35.25 inches.
The unit comes with 64 Mbytes of RAM and can accommodate as
much as 256 Mbytes, xanté
said. The 3G also features the company's halftone calibration
technology.
Each of the new models, when connected to an optional
internal IDE drive, can take
advantage of built-in font acceleration and print job
spooling features, according to xanté.
