A conversation I just had with a representative of "the largest selling
newspaper in country xx, and arguably the world, namely, the Times of xx"...
those where his words.
representative:
"I would be highly obliged if you could make available to our publication
any hi-res images of Ardipithecus ramidus, available online at
http://www.nowhow.nl/english/portfolio/ardipithecus%20ramidus.htm
The images, of course, would be used in conjunction with the article.
I stress on the urgency of this request as our deadline is within 5 hours of
sending this email."
Me:
"Thank you for contacting me. Re-use of this image is 150 euro. I can make
it available for you as a printable pdf (about 12 mb). The printable pdf can
easily be used to copy and past the image into your editing application. I
would like to be credited for this image with "www.miekeroth.com".
If you agree with these terms, the easiest way to do the payment is via
PayPal."
representative:
"I'm afraid we don't have a budget allotted for images, would an image
credit (www.miekeroth.com) do?"
Me:
" I am sorry, but this is my business. I don't just give away things for
free. Good luck with finding the right image!"
Sigh. The last past months I didn't have that much questions like these,
luckily. But if I would have a dollar for each request like this, since I
started this business end 2004, I would be rich.
