Installing a second internal HD or partitioning a portion of that 47+
free space into a "scratch" volume is the best advice I think. Then
pointing Photoshop to that as the Primary and your Startup as the
secondary.  The best thing you can do for speed is to add more RAM. 2
Gig is good.  I have 8 Gig in mine.
