Dear Karen, Britt and Sci-arters:
Thanks for the quick response. I did mean OCR. Also my PC has some
parallel ports and an Adaptech scuzi card for the Zip drive. I had thought
it might be best to leave the parallel ports for other things, but don't
want to give up higher resolution for just a few dollars. That information
about Density range is really useful. I have been confused about the Specs.
Does anyone know if and where scanners and hard drives are available at
academic pricing? This could expand my options considerably. I'm about
sold on getting Windows NT and putting it on a separate drive. Any
thoughts on how big a drive to get? I have 2.5 gigs now. Sometimes I
think just dump Win 95 and forget it. My low end US Robotics modem for
windows may not like that though. One tech told me stay away from drives
over 5 gigs for a personal system. What do your experienced selves think?
I will be running Director, Freehand and Word Perfect 8 suites and a few
other things. (Okay, I am stubborn). Additionally a Wacom tablet and
hopefully a scanner. Oh yeah, I had been holding out for NT 5, but can't
wait much longer without encouragement and a deadline extension.
Miriam
