My recollection is that the memorable diorama was indeed removed
because of a flood of comments like Joan's (your comment form was
perhaps taken for documentation purposes?) and local women's groups.
Surprisingly, I believe the the papers reported at the time that the
diorama was defended by Pawnee tribal representatives.
