Wow. It sounds like somebody really did a number on your system. After you
installed Norton, did you actually allow it to modify anything or was this
simply from running a system scan?

As for seeing what's on the drive, have you tried the same with DOS? From
the C: drive, you can type Dir <enter> and see what directories are present
on the drive. If ther are too many to see in one scroll, type dir/p to have
the list pause after each scroll.

Emil, why do you have to see the D drive to format the C drive? My approach
would be to remove all variables (remove all other hard drives) to avoid
any confusion. Boot from a DOS floppy and reformat the C drive, install
DOS/Windows. Then reattach the D drive and look/see what's there.
