I would talk to Lynnett Cook, Sally Bensusan, Diana Marqes, maybe Amy Bartlett-Wright, maybe Laurie O'Keefe, Frank Ippolito, Gary Hoyle, and anyone on this list who has experience. Also think about the number of objects you will have to design and create/ draw and paint. The complexity needs to be factored in.
I would think $100/sq ft would be an absolute minimum. But measuring by square footage may not be the best or only proper method these days. Complexity, venue (people count who will see it), rights sold, etc.
