Hi Margy, Reuse fees are, as you surmised, typically a percentage of the original commission fee (you can even list those percentages when you put together initial contracts, so clients know what to expect should they need reuse in the future). The percentage itself is predictably variable, but if it’s reuse for a single project, I think the Graphic Artists Guild Handbook sets something like 25-50%. Do you have a copy of the Graphic Artist’s Guild Handbook? It’s a really nice place to start when looking for ballpark pricing structures like this.
