Well now, I could report on how many participants in the conference became
ill from heat or intestinal or bronchial disorders, how every place was thick
with cigarette smoke, how a couple of us had no luggage for most of the
conference (finding new clothes off the Portuguese rack that fit an American
butt can be a challange), the changes in schedules, the confusion about where
and when the next activity would be and figure out on your own how to get
there, the occasional rip-off taxi drivers, how the ATM machines play a fast
game of not giving you your money. Then there are the convoluted methods the
airlines devised to get one to one's designated destination, and the Lisbon
baggage claim people who must have taken lessons from the Book of Torquemada.
Does that help, Geoff??
(In fairness, despite the "inconveniences" the trip was wonderful.) Joan
