Hello,

I guess it's nice that my message ended up being posted on the public listserve. Thanks for the feedback.

I have a flatscreen, not sure if it's a LCD monitor that I bought 12/08. To my eyes it has 'extreme' brights/darks and contrast. The color of this Samsung Monitor seems fine. However, I have to turn down the contrast and brightness to almost zero in order to look at the screen for a long time period. The contrast ratio of this monitor is about 3000:1 with a 2ms response time. I have seen that new monitors have about a 30000:1 contrast ratio and 5ms response time. I wonder if these huge jumps in contrast ratios are viewable or is it just a way for companies to boost their sales.

New laptop screens I have seen are incredibly glossy. Other than Toshiba laptops, it seems that 'red' is definitely 'red'. Does anyone else have trouble looking at these 'new' screens for a long time period?

I wonder if a great graphics card with discrete graphics is needed now to display images well on 'new' screens, since the contrast ratios and specs are so extreme now.

Is there a program one can download to calibrate screens? I have heard of this for tv setups.

Janet
