Medical Models board has been around for years and is comparable to 00
Ross board.  A Johns Hopkins illustrator had it made to order to
replace Ross board.  I have not used it for years but at that time
found it had very small extra bumps of coating, in other words, was
not as evenly coated as 00 Ross board.  But that was a long time ago
and it may be superior now.  It was thickly coated, which is very
nice for scratching details and making corrections.  It definitely is
worth a try.
