there was a font bug that would kill your file if you used a particular
character of a particular font. You could also try blowing away everything
on that problem layer on a copy of the file. You might with a little
experimentation be able to find the layer markers and delete everything in
them that is not the same as around other layer markers.

it to me, I'll let you all know if I am successful.

Thanks Britt, for your advice. Yes, I remember the font bug in 5.0. We lost
a number of files too it, until someone figured out the precise codes to
change.

I have tried to do what you said, that is to delete the layer marks in the
word processing file of the offending layer, but I'm not skillful enough to
delete precisely the right marks or codes. My business partner is more of a
techno wizard than I and he said he would try to do it to see if it will work.
I think by the time we jump through too many hoops, I can just remake the
file, which is just as well as the editor has already changed some of the
content anyway.

Thanks for offering to look at the file. What service!! I will let you know
if we can fix it. If not, I will just remake it.

Life goes on. Files live. Files die.
