I have no trouble whatever with the header. If you enlarge it to go  
across the page it is going to look too large and lean. There is  
nothing at all wrong with asymmetry.
If your emphasis is science illustration and you want to reach buyers  
of sci. illus. you have done a good job.

Your bio is OK. Not smashing, but it does convey information and your  
broad goal. The last sentence, if I were an art director looking at  
this, might give me a tiny moment's pause -- is this person going to  
be a hot shot? You might reword the sentence so that you convey the  
information that you can work with minimal supervision, that you can  
can also independently carry projects from start to successful  
conclusion. Just a matter of how you word it.

I like the woman standing in that architectural setting. She is  
miniscule yet she stands confident in this huge space. The massive  
space is non-threatening because of all the rhythmic arches. Nice  
touch of poetry there, Mary.

The fine art is weaker than the illustration, but it is going in the  
right direction. Love the sardonic expression on the dog's face. joan

Using you science Illustration collection as your front page works OK.  
But I would encourage you to work on a design for a splash page for  
your site that conveys your mission and stills and might include a  
small amount of text.

I would encourage you to make your header/banner equal to the maximum  
width of your site page, in this design.  If you can control the page  
width, I think you could narrow it to the width needed to contain your  
thumbnail previews. That would make a good maximum width for your site  
page.
