GNSI Greater Washington DC, Monthly Meetings

Nov. 16:
We have multiple events to fill you GNSI hunger for the month of November.
Join us for one or both.  Consider making it a day of discovery on the
mall!

11:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.
GNSI Luncheon in the Natural History Museum Staff Cafeteria.
Informal Luncheon and Gab Fest.  Ideal for picking up bits of information
and discussing your current projects.  Meet in the lobby of the
Constitution Avenue Entrance of the Museum at 11:25 a.m. for escort to the
cafeteria.

12-30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m
Tour the mall on your own.  There are many art exhibits in neighboring
museums. At Natural History there is a Great new IMAX movie on the
Galapagos Islands, Japanese Art and Culture of the Inu people, and much
more.

5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Preservation of 2-dimensional Works on Paper:
Choosing Stable Materials and Recognizing the Unstable

Special guest: Mary Studt,
from the Smithsonian's Center for Materials Research and Education

Learn how to choose stable papers and other media for the execution of
drawings, and about materials and methods for housing stable and unstable
archival work.  Mary will also discuss the protection of fragile media,
the
stability of photographic and digital printing processes, the effects of
light, temperature, and humidity on the aging of paper, and fugitive
pigments and inks.

Light refreshments will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m./Talk form 6:00 -
7:30 p.m.


Dec. 21:
Holiday Party and Portfolio Sharing
Join us in a celebration of art and artists!  Bring your portfolio, or
some
samples of your recent work, or anything you would like an opinion on. The
topic is Art and... Food!  Bring a dish of food for a great shared buffet.
The Chapter will provide the drinks.

Meetings are free and open to all, and are normally at 5:30 p.m. on the
third Tuesday of the month, as always, snacks will be served.  Socializing
and snacking are from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Then presentations till about
7:30 p.m.

Meetings are held in the Waldo Schmitt Room of the Museum of Natural
History, Smithsonian Institution, at Tenth Street and Constitution Avenue,
NW. Enter at the Constitution Avenue entrance and wait
at the guard desk for a GNSI escort to take you upstairs. Escorts will
check in at 5:30, 5:45, 6:00, and 6:15.
