September 24: (Special time and Date)
Luncheon with Elaine
Phillips Flagship Seafood Restaurant , 11:45am - 2:00 pm

Elaine Hodges is coming to visit her friends in the National Museum
of Natural History and and give a lecture at NIH next week. She is
planning to visit the Natural History Museum on Friday, September 24.
The GNSI chapter is organizing a lunch outing to celebrate her
visit. In fact we will designate this luncheon the Official
September meeting of the GNSI-DC chapter!

We will again use the Phillips Flagship Seafood Restaurant of
Washington, DC. as the luncheon site. The Phillips' menu offers lunch
items such as soups and salads, and an all you can eat buffet with
wide variety. Cost would range from about $5.00 to $18.00 depending
on your choices.

If you need a ride from the National Museum of Natural History, let
Linda know. For anyone planning to meet the group at Phillips
Flagship, the restaurant's address is 900 Water Street, SW.
Underground parking is available at the restaurant. Parking is also
available on the street or in a lot across the street.

Date: Friday, September 24, 2004
Meet: Leave Natural History at 11:30 AM
Lunch: 11:45 Reservation time at Phillips Flagship of Washington, DC

Hope everyone will be able to attend. Elaine is looking forward to
seeing everyone.
Please RSVP to Linda by Tuesday, September 21st for a reservation
count, to confirm transportation plans and so no one will be left
behind.

October 19:
Price Guessing Presentation
NMNH, Cathy Kerby Room, East Wing, Third Floor 5:30pm - 7:30pm
MEET IN THE CONSTITUTION AVE. LOBBY

A special presentation. For those who were not able to attend the
GNSI conference, or were otherwise occupied while there, Taina Litwak
will conduct the price guessing session she prepared for the national
meeting.

We all face one endless question: how do you price your work? What
exactly did someone get for that eyepopping cover? What did they get
for that series of black and white line pieces? That use on a Web
site? During this slide show/workshop you will be presented with a
series of images and the parameters under which they were produced.
Attendees will then estimate what the artist got for the work. The
actual prices will be given after the show and there will be time for
discussion.

November 13: (special time and date)

Respected painter and sculpture Perry Carsley will
demonstrate/present a selection of approaches for creating landscape
paintings.
Check out http://gnsi.science-art.com/GNSIDC/ in October for more details.

Join us at the quiet hidaway of Scientist's Cliff; bring your lunch
or a non-desert dish to share. Drinks and desert/snacks will be
served.

Please contact Mary Ellen Didion-Carsley if you plan to attend.

Directions:
Scientist's Cliffs
Take the Capital Beltway to exit 11A-Route 4 South toward Upper
Marlboro, Calvert County, MD.

Or take Route 2 south from Annapolis.

Continue on Route 4 south past the town of Dunkirk, past the merge
with Route 2 (at the point the road becomes Route 2/4 Solomons Island
Road) to Parker's Creek Road which is approximately 6 miles south of
the town of Prince Frederick.<br>

There is a misleading sign for Parkers Creek- do not take it. Watch
for the light at Broomes Island Road, proceed through the light.
Approximately 100 yards beyond this light is a left turn, this for
Parker's Creek Road.

Turn left onto Parker's Creek Road. Go up the hill, proceed straight
at the stop sign at the top of the hill. Proceed 0.5 mile and take
the first right on to Scientists' Cliffs Road. You will notice HUGE
high tension electrical towers just before the right turn.

Mary Ellen Didion-Carsley's House
Proceed down Scientists' Cliffs Road approx. 1 mile, look for the
wood sign with white lettering on right that says "Scientists' Cliffs
A Private Community Gate A"; turn right here. Proceed up a small
rise, past a small gate house on the right. At the tobacco barn go
straight. At the next Y in the road (there will be a large single
story log cabin in front of you) bear left, this is Acacia Road.
There will be tennis courts to your immediate left then a ball field,
park on the left hand side of the road across from the playground
above the ball field. The house is a short walk down the road, the
fourth house on the right, 2408 Acacia Road (at the corner of Avocado
and Acacia Roads),flying the Canadian Flag.

December 14:
Holiday Party and Portfolio Sharing!!!
NMNH, Cathy Kerby Room, East Wing, Third Floor 5:30 pm - 8:00pm
MEET IN THE CONSTITUTION AVE. LOBBY

Join us in a celebration of art and artists! Bring your portfolio,
or some samples of your recent work, or anything you would like an
opinion on. The topic is Art and... Food! Bring a dish of food for
a great shared buffet. The Chapter will provide the drinks.

Bring your portfolio or project, bring a dish, have fun!

GNSI-DC need YOU!
We are looking for a new Education/Meeting Coordinator. The process
is fairly well defined for monthly meetings; we need an individual
who will follow up on meeting ideas and coordinate events with other
members. If interested contact Britt Griswold-

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - MUSEUM PARKING
***************************************
Due to the increased security at the museum, those visitors who wish
to park in the Natural History Museum lot (5:30pm or later, at the
west entrance) will have to identify themselves, state that they are
attending the GNSI meeting, and allow the search of their car (the
trunk). We have been told we are on the list for parking. Visitors
may need to be badged in the guard office, and be accompanied up
stairs by a badged museum employee.
