I ran into something similar when I imported some photoshop line work
into Illustrator in CS2: the lines ended up being rainbowed. When I
converted it to greyscale (final output) there was the variation in
tone from the rainbowing. Ultimately I decided it would be easier to
redo than try to work around. It was an inconvenience, to say the least!
