FYI to my friends who have teenaged boys to shop for: the Leatherman pocket tool was a huge hit. Chris played with it for the next half hour virtually ignoring the rest of us. His father expressed jealousy that he did not get one also. And to my surprise and delight Chris seemed genuinely pleased with a starter set of screwdrivers a couple of pliers a hammer and a toolbox to put them in. The fact that they are Craftsman and American-made kinda went over his head but Tools apparently made his Guy-ness happy. I pass along these facts because I have such a hard time shopping for him and I can't be the only person with that problem.
(I thought I was the masochist in the family but Rick the Rocket Scientist bought his son -- wait for it -- an electronic DRUM SET. Snerk snerk.)
