Kirk, I lack the time right now to explain why I think what I do. But it is far from that simple.
I think both are variants on re-creation of historic combat. They started in different places and made different compromises. The results are quite different.
Sociologically, one is the sport we built the Society around and the other isn't. That is also an important difference, although it isn't intrinsic to the sport.
It may be time for that stupid joke. A friend of mine once described the two (I paraphrase) "in one the armor rusts and the weapons mildew. In the other, it's the other way around."
