Can someone remind me what the shortcut is when you copy an image and want
to paste it as a new flat image? I remember maybe Bruce mentioned it years
ago. I am constantly hitting "Ctrl"+"N" ("Command"+"N" on a Mac) and then
having to flatten the image.

If you double click the base layer, you can convert it to an editable layer.
