GNSI-DC Mtg. - Visualizing Science: The Art of Communicating Science
A Special Meeting at a Special Time and Special Location!
Event Date: September 18, 2018 - 3:30pm to 6:00pm
Join us on Tuesday, Sept 18th at 3:30 PM for a special GNSI-DC gathering at the Washington, DC AAAS
Headquarters for a celebration of Science Illustration!
Ever try to explain what you do as a scientific illustrator or science visualizer? Do you get blank
stares? Well, come engage with people who appreciate science and are interested in science
collaboration with art as the partner. Join the discussion about examples of science communication
from your fellow members.
In coordination with the Guild’s 2018 Special Exhibition, Visualize: Art Revealing Science, the AAAS
will host an afternoon colloquium, a panel discussion, about scientific illustration and its role in
science communication. The panel consists of four fellow Guild members: Sally Bensusen, moderating;
Alice Tangerini, Diana Marques and Britt Griswold. Also on the panel will be a scientist from the
National Museum of Natural History speaking about his experiences working with illustrators. Each
participant will speak briefly about their work, followed by a panel discussion and, finally,
questions from the audience.
There will be a reception to follow after the colloquium.
This event is free and open to the GNSI, public, and AAAS members.
