This is the approach I took for our current book; in the first contract
they generated, the illustrations were to become their property. We
renegotiated so that the illustrations would remain the property of the
artist, but that they could be resold only outside of the context of the
type of book we are doing. I am now looking into selling the rights to
some of the illustrations for journal and electronic publications.
